Reason MU320 - Legacy
Integrated Analog and Digital Merging Unit
Manufacturing for MU320 has been discontinued. As an alternative, please refer to MU320E.
GE’s Reason MU320 has an IEC 61850-9-2LE sampled value interface to conventional current and voltage transformers, integrating GOOSE control for switchgear. The MU320 merging unit is the interface from the physical analog world to the digital, using secure and dependable communication networks. The analog signals from the CTs and VTs in the yard are converted to digital and transmitted via the Sampled Values (SV) network communication protocol. IEC 61850-9-2LE compliance offers interoperability with any process bus device – there is no reliance on proprietary techniques. The MU320 has a compact design, with a shallow case depth for easier accommodation inside space-constrained yard kiosks.
MU320 installations offer cost savings thanks to the simplified Ethernet cabling as opposed to the many kilometers of copper hardwiring in conventional substation schemes. The device can be used in both new-build substations, and to refurbish existing facilities. Safety and maintainability are boosted by the removal of dangerous cross-site CT circuits, and the inclusion of self-monitoring to negate the need for periodic testing/inspection.
Key Features
- Shallow case depth for easier accommodation inside space-constrained yard kiosks
- Analogs and digitals, fast and accurate
- Fully-integrated merging unit for process bus applications
- With 2nd analog board, acts as 2 independent merging units
- Support for Protection and Measurement profiles
- Synchronized by IEEE 1588 PTP
- Supports high availability PRP networks as per IEC 62439-5
