This week, GE Electrification convened with the world’s leading navies and industry at IMDEX Asia, to showcase its electric ship power and propulsion solutions. 

IMDEX represents a respected platform within the large Asia Pacific maritime sector in Singapore, where GE Electrification showcased electrification technologies that are helping the world’s leading navies to energize their missions.

GE Electrification has an industry-leading, complete range of electric ship technologies, and decades of naval sector experience with 15 different navies around the world.

• The Shore Power System can help to reduce ports’ carbon and noise emissions, enabling visiting ships to connect to the port’s electrical power and turn their engines off in port
• GE’s Power Conversion business provides system paralleling capability so that the power supplies can flex for different ships’ needs, sharing available power where and when it’s needed

At the busy port of Brest in France, the Brest ESID (the Defence Infrastructure Service Establishment) installed a unique Shore Power System equipped with GE Power Conversion’s converters.

• GE Electrification has been chosen by Keppel Shipyard for the design, supply and delivery of two electrical modules for Petrobras’ Floating Production Storage Offloading vessels (FPSO), coded P-80 and P-83, which will be used for offshore energy production.
• The modules will be constructed in Asia for anticipated delivery during 2024 and 2025 to Singapore for topside integration, utilizing specialist support and expertise from both GE’s Asia and Brazil teams.

• GE Electrification has secured an order for Network Rail for upgrade of the existing phase balancer control and cooling system at their Rail Innovation and Development Centre in Melton Mowbray, UK.
• The scope of supply is upgrade of the control and cooling system including design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning and incorporation of a GE Visor facility for remote diagnostics.
• The upgrade will enable testing of innovative technology for the rail infrastructure, in addition to delivering enhanced performance of the system itself.
